It’s February…let’s talk about L-O-V-E

If you are like me, you have probably noticed the term “self-love” being thrown around all over the place. And with GOOD REASON. It is scientifically proven that loving yourself can improve the quality of your life! I’m not going to go into details…but it’s a FACT! Just trust me 🙂

So since Valentine’s day is right around the corner, l want to talk about why different practices of self-love/ self-compassion/or self-care can be great tools in creating a more loving relationship with yourself and why it is SO important to put these tools into practice. It seems with all the stressors of our complicated world, being kind to ourselves isn’t always at the top of our to-do lists. And that has got to change! Learning to honor your mind, body and spirit is a lifelong endeavor but there are SO many benefits to practicing self-love that can improve your own life and your relationship with the rest of the world. So let’s get good at loving ourselves hard!

Why self- love???
-Through self-love you learn to be compassionate towards yourself even in moments of disappointment, failure, or inadaquecy. Have you ever felt like your life just sucks after scrolling thru all the “amazing lives” of everyone else out there on the internet? A little self-love can help with being more nurturing and mindful of these thoughts when they come up! Furthermore, through self-love you are able to treat yourself with better understanding, forgiveness and patience in those moments of disappointment or failure.
-By practicing self-love you can recognize your own imperfections and accept them. You also realize nobody is perfect, and accept others for their imperfections without judgement and from a place of  love.
-And lastly, through self-love you reaffirm to yourself that you are worthy, that you are enough, and you are totally deserving of love. *repeat after me: I AM WORTHY. I AM ENOUGH. I AM DESERVING OF LOVE.*


From these these positive behaviors stem even more positive mental habits. Through self-love, self-compassion and self-care we learn to have a greater satisfaction with life. YAY. We learn to have a healthier and more accepting concept of body image. Damn I look good! And we learn to have a greater trust in ourselves which in turn prepares us to confront life’s challenges. Bring it on! And not to get too political, but in such a critical moment of women empowerment, speaking your truth and embracing diversity, the practice of self-love is more relevant than ever as we focus on living unapologetically and taking charge of our lives…because F*CK YEA the Force is Female!

You have heard it over and over again, but I one hundred percent believe that we must learn to love ourselves first before we can truly love others. Prioritizing yourself is never selfish…It’s necessary! When we focus on our own needs we can pursue optimal mental and physical health. Which in turn allows us to give our best to others because we are at our best…yay again! So if you don’t have a date this Valentine’s day…don’t freak out…its the perfect moment to just love YOU a little harder.
